Plot
The city of New Rome faces a duel between Cesare Catiline, a brilliant artist who advocates for a utopian future, and the greedy mayor Franklin Cicero. Among them is Julia Cicero, whose loyalty is divided between her father and her lover. Francis Ford Coppola wrote the screenplay in the early 1980s, but the film was shelved in part because of his financial debts. Coppola completely abandoned the project in 2007 and did not resume its development until 2019. The surveillance footage of Cicero entering Caesar’s office must have been taken by two different cameras, as indicated by the small text in the upper left corner. I give Coppola a hell of a lot of respect for this. This guy is a movie legend who just decided to throw away all caution (and consistency) and become a complete mad scientist in this matter. This is a glorious, unfiltered mess from the mind of a genius who has clearly stopped caring what others think. 👏🏻.
